Título

Development of new antioxidant films from fish collagen (Hoplias malabaricus) added with phenolics from Garcinia humilis residues as an alternative to plastic packaging: formulation optimization using blend design methodology

Introdução

Packaging produced from biodegradable polymer films from renewable sources and with functional properties has received increasing attention in the industry due to the negative impacts of non-biodegradable plastic packaging on the environment.

Material e Métodos

Compositions containing collagen (3-8.82% w/w) and Garcinia humilis phenolic compounds, ERAC (0.3-3.12% w/w) were investigated using the mixture design method.

Resultados e Discussão

The optimized conditions for obtaining the new antioxidant film are 6% collagen and 1.5% ERAC, which produces a film with a rough, homogeneous, yellowish, elastic appearance (196.40%), with low solubility (36.67% ) and permeability to water vapor (1.15x10-7gH2O.mm/(m2.h.MPa), in addition to demonstrating values among the highest for antioxidant activity by FRAP (0.486mM Trolox/g) and percentage of iron reducing power (27.24%),

Conclusão

Therefore, overall, the optimum film can be used as antioxidant primary packaging as an alternative to plastic packaging.
