Dr Carole E Chaski is a forensic computational linguist. She has developed and deployed software to support forensic examiners for authorship identification, threat assessment, suicide note assessment, predatory chat notification, textual similarity and dependency and linguistic profiling. This software, ALIAS, is used internationally; ALIAS is both multifunctional and multilingual. Dr Chaski has provided forensic case reports in four continents.

Dr Chaski pioneered validation testing in forensic linguistics, starting in 1994 under a grant from the US Department of Justice; She published the first validation tests in forensic linguistics in 1997 and 2001. Dr Chaski founded the Institute for Linguistic Evidence in 1998, the only independent research venue in the field of forensic linguistics that focuses on testing and developing methods. The Institute has continually supported research internationally, with research affiliates in Greece, Pakistan, Spain, Canada, Brazil and the US.  

Dr Chaski earned her PhD in Linguistics (computational linguistics and syntax) at Brown University, MEd in Psychology of Reading at University of Delaware, and AB magna cum laude in Ancient Greek and English at Bryn Mawr College. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and Chair of the Engineering & Applied Sciences Section. Dr Chaski is certified by the International Board of Forensic Engineering Sciences.
