Dachamir Hotza is a full professor in the Department of Chemical and Food Engineering at the
Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil. He leads the Laboratory of Ceramics
Processing and the Laboratory for the Development of Nanostructures. Hotza holds a Ph.D. in
Materials Engineering from Hamburg University of Technology and degrees in Mechanical and
Chemical Engineering from UFSC. He has been a visiting professor at universities worldwide,
including the University of Queensland and the University of California at Davis.
Hotza has supervised over 80 M.Sc. and 50 Ph.D. theses and has published more than 400 papers
with around 8,000 citations. His paper on “Tape casting of preceramic polymers” was the most
downloaded in American Ceramic Society journals in 2019. He co-authored the book
“Manufacturing Technology of Ceramic Tiles” and holds 6 patents. He received the Caspar Erich
Stemmer Prize for Innovative Researcher in 2021 and was recognized for coordinating the best
graduate interchange program Brazil-Europe in 2013.
A member of ACerS since 2002, Hotza is an associate editor of ACerS International Journal of
Ceramic Engineering and Science and serves on the editorial boards of nine other journals. He
actively organizes symposia at the Pan-American Ceramics Congress, fostering international
collaboration, especially in Latin America.
